The Wisdom of the Andes

Five years ago, I found a new perspective on the world as I stepped into my shamanic training. It was here that I discovered the Munay Ki rites, ancient energy transmissions from the descendants of the Incas. I later started to teach these rites in an online course that I created. As I teach this course, I often get asked about these ancient shamanic rites and how they work. Here’s my answer.

To better understand these rites, we need to travel to Peru and go back in time to the days when the Spanish conquistadores were defeating the Inca Empire.

Among the Incas, there was a tribe known as the Q’ero. They lived high up in the Andes, and they went even higher, at altitudes above 14,000 feet trying to find refuge from the conquerors. They were the last of the Incas. The elders of the tribe held great prestige. They were the Laika, the medicine men and women who preserved a sacred prophecy of great change, a prophecy that spoke of a time when the world would be turned upside down, when harmony would be restored, and chaos and disorder would end. It would be a time when what they called MUNAY — love and compassion — would become the guiding force of the world.

Nearly 500 years have passed, and they have guarded these prophecies as they have preserved their way of living and their traditions. And in recent years, they started to feel the time has come to share their rites with the world.

It’s important to remember that although the Q’ero and other Inca tribes were the guardians of these rites, they did not start with the Incas. These ancient rites originate from the shamans in Siberia and were carried on and passed from generation to generation as they came across the Bering Strait from Siberia to the Americas some 15,000 years ago. The rites are part of the shamanic heritage of the planet.

The rites have then been brought to the West by Dr Alberto Villoldo, a medical anthropologist who has worked extensively with the shamans of the Amazon and the Andes and who later founded the “Four Winds Society”, the largest shamanic institute in the world. This is the institute I have completed my shamanic training with.

As they shared their rites in 2006 first with Dr Villoldo and after that with other Westerners, the elders of the Q’ero tribes had one requirement: they wanted their rites to be shared with as many people as possible. And once the recipients have received all of them, they were asked to pass them on to others. For the elders of the Q’ero tribe, this was the reason why they had opened their sacred teachings: so that as many people as possible could benefit from them and so that we can all prepare for the period of great change that they felt had already started.

These rites act to upgrade our luminous energy field also called our energy field or aura. But what is this luminous energy field?

In addition to our flesh and bones bodies, we each have an energy body as well. It is the electromagnetic field that surrounds every living thing. It contains information about our personal and ancestral memories, early-life trauma and even wounds from former lifetimes. These memories are called imprints. They live in the energy field that surrounds us and act as a beam. They attract certain incidents, experiences, and the people in our lives. They are like an invisible program that runs our life.

When these imprints are cleared, change happens at tremendous speed. For instance, if there’s no imprint of disease in our energy field, we will recover from illness very quickly. And if we remove a trauma imprint that re-created the same pattern in our lifetime and time again, the pattern will stop appearing.

The Munay Ki rites work at the level of this luminous energy field, they are energy transmissions that upgrade the vibration of this field and help clear up negative imprints that may come from our genetic and karmic inheritance.

How do they do this? Some of them work exactly like meditation or mindfulness techniques, they require the recipient to visualise certain things or repeat certain statements. Others are pure energy transmissions that come from a lineage of energy healers from the past. And some others open you up to receive universal energy, following the same principles on which Reiki is based.

There are nine Munay Ki rites in total, plus a special one for women called the Rite of the Womb. And once you receive them and learn about their significance, you can pass them on to others.

These rites have completely transformed my life in ways that I could not have ever imagined and I have written about this in a previous article (“Make Room for Magic in Your Life”). What I want to add here is that I still have no idea how they did it. Yes, I did the meditations and the visualisations. Yes, I felt my palms tingling when I received the rites as I do every time I pass them on to others. Yes, I made a commitment to live by their principles. But the changes in my life have been so big, so unexpected and so lasting that still now, five years later, I cannot explain exactly how they are related to these rites. I just know they are.
